Vintage Fender '65 Precision Bass with 3 Tone Sunburst Finish

This bass is a fine example of its type and a killer playing and sounding P. It has the classic wide thin neck profile and the loud, full, articulate pickup that usually characterize mid 60s Precisions. It's relatively light and very touch sensitive.

This bass wants to be played and does everything one could reasonably expect of it RIGHT. The neck is straight and even with no twists, high spots or dead spots. The back of the neck is played in to a silky smooth fell with no stickiness. Frets are original and in remarkably fine shape with good height, smooth crown and almost no pitting evident. There is some honest play wear, but no ugly mods or alterations.

Weight: 8.72lb

Fingerboard: Rosewood

Finish: 3TSB

Pickguard: Tortoise with shielding on back. Stabilized crack near output jack and at bass horn screw.

Neck Plate: Serial Number on "No F" neck plate -  L92958 (dates to 1965)

Neck Stamp: End of Neck Stamp Black "5AUG65C"

Headstock Screen: Silver and Black outline Transition Style logo OVER  black "PRECISION BASS" with PAT#s on headstock: "2,986,204", "2,976,755", "2,573,254", Scratch through 1st digit ?"(2),143,028", "DES 187,001"

Truss Rod: Adjusts smoothly and effectively

Tuning Keys: 2nd & 3rd tuning key post bolts replaced. Possibly non-original tuners but period correct. 4th tuner has some plating chipped on back of tuner

Potentiometers:  Pot codes show Stackpole 20th week of '65. Pots are nice smooth taper and it sounds wonderful.

Case: Non-original yellow-lined hard case closes, but is in very poor condition. Can't trust the latches or handle but will be fine for storage.

Condition notes:

Appropriate playwear for a guitar of this vintage that has seen studio and stage time over the years.

No bridge cover or pickup cover

Original strap button hole is in the back of headstock, but is missing the button and the screw that would have been original.

Ding in neck bass side just after 3rd fret.

Swirly ding on face of headstock.

Many dings in the body. Some corrosion on pickup poles.

Slight pitting on earlier frets, but in great shape and appear to be original.

Possible small touch up on treble side shows under black light. All else looks as expected with no cracks.
