Since the 90s the Dinosaur Jr. guitar sound has been very much dependent on a raging Marshall stack being driven by old school dirt boxes. Notoriously J. is one of the most prominent users of the Ram's Head Big Muff with his pedalboards looking like something from an obsessive collector's basement, covered in Big Muffs and various recreations. In anyone else's hands this would be a recipe for uncontrollable feedback, but Mascis manages to wrangle all manner of smooth and rough lead sounds to perfectly match the song.


The fuzz section of the Garbage Face is a part for part reproduction of J.'s number 1 Ram's Head Muff from the mid 70s. The folks at Wren and Cuff worked with J. for over 2 years to perfect the design of this one. Upon pulling his vintage pedal apart they realized that most of the parts values were both irregular when compared to schematics and many of them had drifted over 50% in value. Through very careful testing and measurements the true values have been found and were used to create the fuzz half of this pedal.

The boost section is based on a classic germanium treble booster, configured in front of the fuzz to boost the gain and aggression. You also get a second footswitchable master volume on the fuzz so you can get a boost in a live setting. The treble boost also can be switched to a full range boost for a more even and thick sound as opposed to the zippy treble response of the Rangemaster style treble boost.
