Pre-Owned 1970s Gibson J-55

This guitar is a cannon! This is a Gibson J-55 manufactured sometime in between 1975-1977 in the Kalamazoo factory according to the serial number. Gibson Reissued the J-55 in 1973 with a few changes from the original pre-war model. The J-55 here is double X braced with a solid spruce top with laminate mahogany back and sides. Don't let the laminate back and sides dissuade you, this is a fantastic sounding guitar. Chords in the open position are incredibly rich and warm, single notes have a nice wide midrange all the way up the neck. This is the perfect campfire guitar, and a fantastic example of a player grade instrument. The tuners turn nice and smooth and the neck feels incredible, not too big, not too small.

There are some dings and dents in this instrument which are to be expected with its age. Most notably around the binding. The binding has shrunk back a bit but is stable. All cosmetic damage can be seen in the photos.

This guitar has had some work done. The neck has been reset by our in house luthier. One fret has been replaced. The star inlay on this guitar is not original, the endpin, saddle, and pick guard have been replaced as well. At one point there was a finish touch up done which didn't quite turn out. There is very little fret wear. The neck is nice and straight and the guitar has undergone a full inspection and setup by our in house luthier.

As always, this guitar ships fully insured with signature required.
