The Guild Starfire II bass is one of the iconic Semi-Hollow medium-scale length bass guitars of the '70s. As if its two meaty humbuckers with individual volume and tone controls as well as a master volume control weren't enough tonal variety, it also has a mini-toggle to mug everything up.
This is a "good" vintage condition example of an instrument that has been a workhorse in the studio and on-stage with the typical bumps and scrapes of a played 50-year-old instrument.
The master volume is slightly scratchy and all of the pots are Stackpole brand - the one that we were able to read the date code off of was dated the 11th week of 1971. All others appear to be similar vintage. We don't see any evidence of it having been modified.
There is an obvious headstock repair and this original owner told us one day in the 1980s they opened the case and it was just broken. They took it over to Chris Brandt and had a quality repair performed that is solid to this day.
Serial number 61105 confirms the birth of the instrument in late 1971.
Four of the knobs have been swapped out, but the originals are in the included original hard case, which has some minor delamination and rips in the Tolex. An extra cool bonus is that this also comes with the extremely rare original Guild gig bag in '70s black vinyl!
The classic large clover open back tuning keys hold pitch and add so much vibe.
The original strap button was replaced. It is very worn and also included in the case.
The action is nice and it just received a fresh setup with D'Addario EXL170M Med Scale 4 string set.
Come on down and check this groove machine out. If you are not in the Portland, Oregon metro area, this will ship fully insured with signature required!
