Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water K-Field Modulator

Discover the Enigmatic World of Shallow Water - A Unique K-Field Modulator

Uncertain, Subtle, and Nostalgic Enter the enigmatic realm of the Shallow Water K-Field Modulator pedal, where uncertainty, subtlety, and nostalgia converge to create a truly unique sonic experience. This pedal ventures beyond the boundaries of conventional chorus and vibrato effects. At its core, it houses an analog chorus/vibrato circuit that employs a bucket brigade device to introduce a slight delay to the signal, creating classic pitch modulation. However, Shallow Water takes these concepts into uncharted territory with its distinctive k-field modulator architecture.

Unlocking the Secrets of the K-Field Modulator

The Shallow Water's signature randomness begins with a microcontroller-based program generating steps of random voltages separated by unpredictable time intervals. The RATE control defines the overall range of these intervals. These random voltages then pass through a filter/integrator, where the DAMP control influences the slope at which the steps reach their new values. Depth (DEPTH) dictates the modulation's intensity on the input signal's time delay. An intricate interplay exists among the RATE, DAMP, and DEPTH controls, shaping the modulation's character.

Enveloping Your Sound

After the input signal traverses the delay line, a recovery filter and gate come into play to remove unwanted noise generated by the bucket brigade device. The pedal employs an envelope follower to track the input's envelope and modulate the low pass filter's frequency. The LPG control governs the amount of envelope, yielding a spectrum from bouncy, lo-fi responses to snappy gate-like behaviors. The Shallow Water K-Field Modulator offers a sonic journey into the past and future, where the present becomes a fleeting memory.
