Boss DM-101 Analog Delay Machine
Boss DM-101 Analog Delay: Revolutionary Analog Delay for Modern Musicians
BOSS introduces the DM-101 Delay Machine, a powerful and innovative analog delay pedal designed for modern musicians. Driven by eight BBDs under smart CPU control, this pedal delivers 12 unique modes, stereo operation, and a wide array of tonal colors while maintaining 100 percent analog signal processing throughout. With 127 user memories, tap tempo, carryover, MIDI, and more, the DM-101 combines the features and versatility of an advanced digital pedal with the vibrant, characterful sound of authentic analog BBD circuitry.
Classic Analog Sound with Modern Enhancements
Analog delays using BBD (bucket-brigade device) microchips emerged in the 1970s as a compact, cost-effective alternative to tape delays. Their warm, saturated, and musical sound established a distinctive style of delay that remains favored by many musicians and audio engineers. The DM-101 builds on this legacy with modern CPU control, enhancing the classic effect with capabilities for today’s music makers. It effortlessly transitions between gritty vintage echoes and modern analog delay tones with extended high-frequency clarity.
Versatile Delay Modes and Control
The DM-101 features 12 distinct modes, each defined by multiple internal circuit elements, including the number of active BBDs, their connection order, low-pass filter settings, and clocking rates. The Variation knob allows for real-time adjustments unique to each mode, while the Intensity knob can drive the effect into saturated self-oscillation. This flexibility ensures a broad palette of delay tones to suit any musical style or application.
Sophisticated Stereo Effects
One of the DM-101’s standout features is its ability to create sophisticated stereo sounds not available with other BBD analog delays. Modes like Pan route each BBD and its feedback loop to alternate points in the stereo field, while Dual Mod shifts the modulation phase for each output, generating wide, spacious delay effects. Six of the 12 modes support stereo operation, offering everything from short reverb-like sounds to expansive modulated delays and intense rhythmic pattern delays.
Comprehensive Features for Modern Musicians
The DM-101 is packed with features that provide all the creative benefits of an advanced modern delay pedal. Tap tempo and note subdivisions are available in most modes, with carryover maintaining repeats when the effect is bypassed. Users can store and recall favorite setups with four onboard memories and connect up to two footswitches or an expression pedal for extended real-time control. MIDI I/O offers remote access to 127 user memories, MIDI sync, and more, while the stereo audio outputs can be reconfigured for wet/dry rigs and wet-only parallel setups.
